I guess that makes this story even more special than the one I posted a few days earlier about the first time I went to Chiapas and Oaxaca.
That one was more on the local side of the border and involved a woman who did things just because of her family’s connection to Mexico – who I’d never thought of doing that way, I must say.
Here’s the deal: a friend from Newburgh wanted to go to Chiapas to teach English in Chiapas, not New York. If he was there, he’d be in constant touch with me, but if he wasn’t there he was going to be up in Newburgh, where no one would pick up his calls. It was like that day in the movies when somebody calls “Willie,” and that really wasn’t their name.
